Wouldn’t it be great if all school systems could
have all “new schools?” these “new school” would have the most updated digital
technology and web application that are available. All school systems would be
equal and all students would be motivated to learn by using these digital
devices. Students use digital devices at home; why not incorporate them into
the school curriculum? Students could use their iPhone to complete research on
a subject, could blog about a literature story or answer questions on a Wiki
page.
In my classroom, I would like to be able to iPads
with my special needs students. I believe the use of iPads could motivate or
capture their attention. It could help them practice their critical thinking
skills and let them communicate with us.
There was one saying which caught my attention,
“Everything anyone could want is someplace online” (p. 9). That one statement
is so true. If you wanted to know about anything, you could get your answer
from the Internet. What a great resource. The video about “Net Neutrality”
really does have a specific point. Any company who provides Internet service
could block connections to use a peculiar search engine. This could really
happen. Why won’t Congress create laws about “Net Neutrality”? We need them to
vote for law enabling “Net Neutrality” to pass.
This post is a reflection of chapter 9 in our ED529 class. I would like for my blog to focus on technology and special needs students. I have really enjoyed reading Solomon & Schrum's Web 2.0 new tools, new schools, book. It has given me much insight into today's digital tools. Some students today know more about the 21st Century tools than I know, but I am learning alot about these new tools.
Terry I think the implementation of iPads is a great idea. I am currently trying to acquire iPod Touches for my students. Special Needs students benefit so much from these type of devices. It's amazing how they sometimes think they are playing, not realizing they are learning. I have students with fine motor issues and these touch screens make it easier for them to operate independently. I agree, these devices would be great for communication between teacher/student and teacher/parent. We could program information for parents to use at home.
